๐ŸŽฏ Purpose of the Role

ย 

To lead and deliver pre-construction commercial services that support the work-winning strategy for the business unit. This includes overseeing estimates, commercial and operational solutions, and ensuring compliance with frameworks and KPIs. Youโ€™ll also manage a team and approve tenders.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Key Responsibilities

  • ๐Ÿ“Š Develop and report on the operational plan for precontract services.
  • ๐Ÿง  Create tender strategies including risk, opportunities, CVRs, and cash flows.
  • ๐Ÿค Partner with senior stakeholders to align with growth and performance goals.
  • ๐Ÿ‘ฅ Lead and manage the precontract team to meet tender and quality targets.
  • โœ… Ensure compliance with Wates Operating Framework and industry standards.
  • ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Represent Wates in client meetings to influence market direction.
  • ๐Ÿ”„ Monitor and adapt BU strategies based on market and bid performance.
  • โš–๏ธ Manage risk in estimation processes and approve tender clarifications.
  • ๐Ÿงพ Attend settlement and strategic meetings.
  • ๐ŸŒ Sign off commercial proposals related to Social Value.
  • ๐Ÿ” Review bids to maximise operational solutions.
  • ๐Ÿ“ˆ Lead post-tender reviews for continuous improvement.
  • ๐Ÿš€ Oversee premobilisation training and reviews.
  • ๐Ÿงฐ Support project teams and maintain Salesforce data.

  • ๐Ÿ“ Produce clear, action-oriented reports for senior leaders and forums.
  • ๐Ÿงญ Chair meetings and mediate between differing views.
  • ๐Ÿค Gain stakeholder buy-in across management teams.
  • ๐Ÿงฉ Train teams in complex or emerging legal areas.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฃ Contribute to WPS CLT meetings and influence tendering strategy.

๐Ÿ’ท Financial & People Responsibilities

  • ๐Ÿ’ฐ Manage functional expenditure within budget.
  • ๐Ÿ“Š Oversee pre-tender P&L across four divisions (up to ยฃ1bn annually).
  • ๐Ÿ‘ฅ Line manage and coach team members.
  • ๐Ÿค Manage third-party contributors in the tender process.

๐ŸŽ“ What Weโ€™re Looking For

๐Ÿ“š Knowledge

  • Industry and sector expertise.
  • Strong project management and commercial/legal acumen.
  • Up-to-date with sector-specific legislation.
  • Skilled in risk management.

๐ŸŽ“ Qualifications

  • Degree qualified.
  • Chartered status (RICS, CIOB or equivalent).
